LDT-C - Learning Disabilities Consultants

Four to six percent of all the students in the U.S.A. have been found to have a special learning disability. This is according to research carried out by the Learning Disability Association of America.

This disability can last a person’s lifetime and affect his mental process and intelligence capacity. A Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDT-C) imparts knowledge to students living with such disabilities. He or she also acts as an expert in regard­ to the appropriate techniques and strategy applicable in dealing with persons with special needs.

An LDT-C makes recommendations on how to improve systems of education to meet the needs of persons living with disabilities. Teaching children how to cope with learning disabilities helps them manage it for the rest of their lives. Career The District Board of Education appoints an LDT-C. Focus is centered upon the student and his education background as opposed to how well he fares in assessments.

Federal law may impose further requirements for one to qualify as an LDT-C. For instance, in New Jersey, the New Jersey LDTC certificate is necessary for teaching persons with disabilities. Legalities It is the right of every child living with disability to gain free education in public schools within the most permissive environment possible.

The State recommends acceptable standards of education for disabled persons. The law that governs free and proper education in public schools is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004. Role The role of an LDT-C comprises the analysis of the disabled child’s physiological, learning and psychological learning performances.

The LDT-C accomplishes this through the assessment of the child’s capabilities against his overall achievement. They conduct extensive interviews with the children and assess these against their school transcripts. The result is used to make recommendations for the appropriate education plans of the child. This may differ from one child’s need to the next. The LDT-C may utilize these findings in the implementation of special education law in her role as a consultant. Advantages Entrusting a child with disabilities under the supervision of an LDT-C is advantageous in many ways.

Firstly, the LDT-C is especially trained to deal with children living with disabilities. He or she has further knowledge of the same through experience gained through practice.
