SCIENTIFIC LEARNING CORP. LAUNCHES BRAINY NEW WEB SITEOctober 22, 1999America Online, Go.com and other so-called "web portals" are becoming more and more popular to give Internet users a jumping off point, but a new portal from Scientific Learning Corp. offers something the others lack - brains. Scientific Learning's new BrainConnection.com, and its companion NeuroWire online magazine, provide news, information and services for people trying to keep up with the constant evolution of the matter between a person's ears. BrainConnection.com is designed for both consumers and educators interested in the latest research regarding the brain and its ability to learn, Scientific Learning says. The online magazine will cover topics such as visual perception, developmental learning, aging and the brain, evolution of the brain and major figures in brain research. Like other web portals, BrainConnection.com offers a mix of information and services, such as shopping pages, a search engine and a way for individual users to customize the site's appearance. Scientific Learning also plans to host panel discussions, interviews and chat sessions on the site. Both the web site and the NeuroWire online magazine accept article submissions from interested parties. "One of our principal goals with BrainConnection.com and its online magazine is to document the often-complex discoveries from neurological and neuroscience research laboratories around the world in accurate terms that will be meaningful to consumers, educators, clinical practitioners, and scientists," Scientific Learning co-founder Dr. Michael Merzenich said. Scientific Learning, founded in 1996, is perhaps best known for its Fast Forword programs for individuals with language and reading problems. According to the company, the programs are based on more than two decades of research into how the brain learns.8 |
